Welcome to my dolls page! The outfits you see here are my own creations. I hope you enjoy looking at them!

I rediscovered dolls in 1998 when I was window shopping in FAO Schwartz. There she was...the loveliest fashion doll I had ever seen! Her name was Gene Pin Up and she was in a show case all by herself.  Every time I would go to the mall I would stop by and look at her again. I was a single mother raising two children on not much more than minimum wages and a monthly child support check. There was no way that I could afford her so I made myself content with visiting her every so often. Then I met Brandon. (or I should say, re-met Brandon) We had been aquaintances for a long time through a historical group we both belonged to. We re-connected and fell in love (awwwwww  ;>)  Unknown to me, he had noticed my adoration for this doll and as a surprize on my birthday, he took me to FAO S. and bought her for me.  (awwwwww)  Oh my gosh...she was sooo beautiful- and so much fun to sew for!  Well...many dolls and lots of homesewn doll creations later, here I am.

Thank you for looking at my doll creations and I hope they inspire you to find and develop your own creative streak!

Here is my "Erte in Black" creation

I was inspired by Erte,an amazing artist/fashionista from the 1920's. Working with feathers isn't easy but the final effect is worth the effort. I love beading my creations because the beads add so much more detail to the outfits.

  "Me" Information

I was born in Heidelberg Germany, the middle army brat daughter of Major Russell P. an Mrs. Doris Mae Means. I have two sisters, both very talented and creative!

My mother used to draw these really cool paper dolls for us on whatever cardboard we could find and then we would design clothing for them. I would wear my poor paper dolls out and I constantly bugged my mom to make more dollies to design for.

Then I got my first Barbie doll. My mother was an incredible seamstress and was always sewing the most wonderful outfits for the three of us girls! I graduated to constantly asking her for fabric scraps to make doll clothing with. I guess that's where my passion for designing and sewing clothing came from.

Fast forward. I joined a historical re-creation group (the SCA) and started making costumes to wear to events for myself and my husband, and then for my daughter and son. I absolutely loved it!!! I branched out to making outfits for my friends in the group and my creations went from being costumes to being historically accurate period clothing. I made some clothing for the Sacramento Historical Society. I also worked for the Sacramento City College Theater Department making costumes for Shakespeare in the Park..."Taming of the Shrew" and "Hamlet".  I learned French sewing techniques from a very talented seamstress I met through the historical re-creation group we both belonged to.

Life was not always rosey for myself and my children and we went through a very painful divorce. I didn't have the time or the money to participate in SCA events any more as I was busy trying to provide for myself and my two children on not much more than minimum wage. At one point I gathered up about 2/3s of my SCA garments and sold them so that I could make the rent that month. I had taken a bank teller training class and after working at a big department store for a while (also not a happy experience) I got a job as a bank teller. It took me 2 years of going through the court system to finally start receiving reasonable child support. Finances became a little less tight after that and I would buy some fabric and sew once in a while. During this time I made a very good friend who had gone through what I was going through. She is a wonderful seamstress and even has her own home historical clothing business. I would sew stuff for her to make ends meet as well. Those were turbulent times but we made it through.

I married again to a terrific guy and received my first Gene doll. Well, I've told the rest of the story elsewhere so I won't repeat it.

What could be better than that...  Having a hobby making beautiful clothing for my dolls...thats what. For me anyway!

My Egytian Queen is one of my favorite creations!

Her garments were researched and are historically accurate. Her white gauze garment can be worn several different ways. I used blue, white and black beads as they were very popular colors way back when!

Here is my lovely Snow Fairy! She is a 10" dolly.

She is a former Tonner Tiny Kitty. She is the perfect size for making fairy outfits. This doll and outfit will be going up on Ebay soon. I hope she does well!!!
